Ranking well in the search engines is not a secret strategy or some trick that only the experts know about, it’s something that can be learned and applied by anyone. There are some very simple things that you can do to improve your search engine rankings that will give you immediate results. I’m going to show you just what they are and how to use them.
#1 How To Use Keywords in an Article
Everyone knows that keywords are very important when putting together an article for your website. Using the right keyword or keyword phrase for each article you write will give you a much better chance of getting ranked for that article and if you choose the right keyword phrase and place it correctly your chances of getting first page placement are very good. One thing that you want to stay away from is placing to many keywords into your articles thinking that more is better. All you need is one good keyword phrase per article. Google will rank your article on that keyword phrase plus pick out other keywords that you never expected from the natural flow of your writing.
#2 H1 Heading Tag Example
What are heading tags? When building your website everything you see in your editor serves a purpose. The H Heading Tags are there for a reason and the reason. The H heading Tags let the search engines know what you writing about. The H1 Heading is the most important one out of all of them and should only be used once in the tittle of your post. It’s very important to place the main keyword phase for your post within the H1 Heading tittle tag.
The next H tag in line would be the H2 Heading Tag. This one would be used once below the H1 tittle tag but is actually optional and not as important as the H1 Heading. Personally, I rarely use the H2 Tag.
Then you have your H3, 4, 5 and 6 Heading tags. The only one of these that I ever use is the H3. The H3 Heading Tag is used to break up your content into groups of information for your readers.
This enables your readers to scan the page for the highlights in the information, plus tells Google more about what your article is about. Using keywords and placing them correctly in the Heading tags is very import and will definitely help you get ranked in the search engines.
#3 How to Use an Alt Tag in Images
Alt Tags are keywords for your images. The Alt Tag lets Google know what the image is about. Images and videos rank differently then content, sometimes even faster then content. Placing an Alt Tag in every image is as important as placing your keywords in your posts. Alt Tags will give you more exposure and help you to rank better with the search engines.
I like to use my main keyword as the Alt Tag text in my images. If I am placing more then 2 images in an article I will use a different keyword phrase as the Alt Tag for each picture. Below is a snapshot of where you need to place your Alt Tag Keyword.
In this demonstration we’re going to use the keyword butterflies. Imagine that you’ve placed a picture in your article of a butterfly and tagged that picture with the Alt Tag “butterflies”. Now imagine that someone is looking for pictures of butterflies and typed the keyword “butterflies” into the search bar.
When doing a search for any keyword or keyword phrase there will always be an option to click on the image link in the results it brings back.. You can see that the search below was for the keyword butterflies.
When someone clicks the image link it will open a page with images that are related to the keyword they typed into the search bar. In this case the images are of butterflies because the keyword we used was butterflies.
Next, If you click on anyone of the images that you see in the results “above“, Google will now open a window and give you the option to click on a link to visit the page that is affiliated with that particular image “below“. Without placing Alt Tags in your images you have no chance of having your images show up in these results. This is another avenue to use with the search engines that works rather well. Millions of people search for images in the search engines every day. Personally I search for images almost every day.
Placing Alt Tags in your images will give you more exposure, more traffic which leads to more conversions and better ranking with Google. None of this would be possible without placing your Alt Tags in you images. There are many factors that play into Google’s ranking process and this is definitely one of the more important ones. Google recognizes this SEO strategy as a positive thing and you’ll be giving your website some more Google juice that will drive you closer to the front page of the results in the search engines.
#4 What is Internal Link Building
External links and internals links are 2 different kind of links. They are both used for giving you readers a better experience and increasing your ranking with the search engines but in this demonstration we are going to be talking about internal links and what they are used for.
Internal links are links that you set up yourself within the structure of your website to point your readers to different pages within your website. You have complete and total control over your internal links, where they are placed and where they send people to. Internal links are used to enhance the user experience by making it easy to navigate your website. When building out our websites the focus should always be on adding value for the reader.
If someone is searching for something in your niche and Google delivers them to one of the articles on your website you want to give them the best experience that you possibly can. Internal links play a big part in this process. Once you’ve invested some time into your site you’ll have a number of different articles and posts that you have published. If 2 or 3 of those articles compliment each other you’ll want to link them to each other.
This is done inside of your content by highlighting part of the text in a sentence that relates to something on one of your other pages and creating a link to that page. This points your readers to another part of your website. You can point them anywhere, but the end result that you’re looking for is to lead them to your money page and convert a sale. This can be done by providing good information that hooks the reader in, then introducing subtle links in your content that leads them to a page that has affiliate links.
Pages with affiliate links are what’s considered money pages. You should not have affiliate links on all of your pages. Google will see your website as nothing more then a sales promotion. When Google’s spiders crawl your website and see that it is a website that gives value to people they send you they like that. They do not like seeing every page and post on your website having some kind of promotion.
Your website should be set up to help people and your internal links should be used to subtly point your readers to your money pages. Your money pages should always have something that you believe in that will deliver some kind of value to anyone that makes a purchase.
#5 Consistency is The Keyword
Consistency is something that some of us just don’t get. Many people either overlook the importance of it or give up on it because they get discouraged. To many of us have unrealistic expectations of making fast money. Consistency is a definite factor that plays into the way Google sees you. The search engine algorithms are much more sophisticated then most people give them credit for. Believe me when I tell you that Google knows how often you are adding content to your website. This is one of the main things that you will be ranked on with the search engines. They like to see websites that are constantly adding new content that brings value to the internet.
If you publish one post per week for one year you will have 52 posts on your website by the end of the year. I would say that this is the minimum. Think about this! If you publish two posts per week for one year you will have 1o4 posts on your website by the end of the year. This is double the amount of content being published on your website which is a substantial difference in the eyes of the search engines.
Publishing one post per month over the course of a year will give you 12 posts by the end of the year. Don’t get caught in that routine, you’ll be waiting your time. There are marketers out there that write one 1000 word article every day of for a year straight. This kind of commitment and investment will drive your website to the top of SERPs and give you exposure for many keywords that you never even intended, but not everyone has the kind of time to invest to do this, and if you’re not adding quality content then you’re just spinning your wheels.
A realistic goal is to shoot for one article per week and if you can do better on some weeks then you’ll be ahead. Don’t stress out if you can’t accomplish your goal every now and then. You won’t loose the ranking that you’ve gained by missing one week.
Building a real online business is a process that takes a commitment. Contrary to what all of the online scams present telling how easy it is to make money and how you don’t have to know anything. If you’re looking to start a real online business with integrity and build it into something that you can be proud of that will stand the test of time you will have to work for it.
